About 12:30 a.m. Monday, Veterans Day, the Berkeley Fire Department received information about a fire on the 1700 block of Virginia Street in North Berkeley.
The first arriving fire engine reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the back side of the building, according to Brian Harryman, the on-duty battalion chief for BFD. He added that fire was showing from the roof in the attic area.
Four engines, a ladder truck, three ambulances and the Berkeley Police Department, along with PG&E, arrived at the scene.
BFD fought the fire for two hours, according to Harryman, who said the last unit cleared about 3 a.m. There were no fatalities or injuries.
The cause of the fire is still unknown and currently under investigation from the fire marshal’s office.
