The Bears landed their 23rd commit to the 2020 class in lineman Jaedon Roberts.
Ranked as a three-star recruit by Rivals, Roberts has garnered attention for his size at 6’3” and 280 pounds, as well as his quickness and athleticism — and has been received attention from top college programs like Penn State and Michigan, as well as Cal’s Pac-12 rivals Oregon and Utah.
Able to play on both the offensive and defensive line, Roberts will add much-needed depth and strength. The Bears’ defensive line has struggled against the run and the offensive line has been decimated by injury in 2019, and more bodies are sorely needed in the trenches at Memorial Stadium.
Roberts is returning home to the Bay Area. He grew up in Sausalito, after playing high school football at Avon Old Farms in Connecticut. His recruitment from the East Coast is a move rarely seen in recent years from a Cal program which has kept its attention out west.
