The No. 5 ranked Cardinal demolished the Bears 73-40 off the back of a defensive onslaught and an impressive shooting night from Haley Jones and Ashten Prechtel, who scored 17 and 13 points respectively.

Cal came out of the gates sluggish, making only 2 of their first 17 shots. The Bears’ five-point first quarter was Cal’s worst quarter of the season so far, but that mark was later surpassed by an abysmal third quarter where the blue and gold scored only 3 points. The Bears scored the majority of their points in the fourth quarter when the game was completely out of reach. The largest lead for Stanford was 42.

Cal was outrebounded 50-29, and shot a season low 27.3% from the field. Jazlen Green scored a team high nine points and forward Evelien Lutje Schipholt netted a team-high five rebounds. Bears’ starters combined to shoot 9 of 34 from the field. This loss puts Cal’s record at 8-6.

This is game one of two between Cal and Stanford this weekend. The Bears will take on the Cardinal on Sunday at Haas Pavilion.
