Cal football head coach Justin Wilcox officially has his full-time staff for the 2020 season.
On Tuesday, the Bears announced the hiring of former Cal Poly running backs coach Aristotle Thompson in the same role at Cal. Thompson had been with the Mustangs program since 2008, producing at least one 1,000 yard rusher in each of the past nine seasons.
A former running back for Boise State from 1997-2000, Thompson spent three seasons with the Broncos coaching staff at the same time as Wilcox, in 2001 and from 2007-2008. He inherits a running backs room that will retain starting tailback Christopher Brown Jr., along with change-of-pace backs DeShawn Collins and Marcel Dancy for the 2020 campaign.
“I am excited to become part of a tremendous coaching staff at Cal,” Thompson said in a press release. “This is a program that has established a great culture over the last three years and I’ll do everything I can to contribute to it.”
Thompson fills the position recently vacated by Nick Edwards, who coincidentally joined former Cal offensive coordinator Beau Baldwin’s staff at Cal Poly as Baldwin’s offensive coordinator. Wilcox recently filled Baldwin’s vacancy with the hiring of Bill Musgrave.
