Berkeley police arrest man on suspicion of assault

About 5:27 p.m. Feb. 12, Berkeley Police Department officers responded to a call on the 2500 block of Shattuck Avenue involving a fight between two men, according to an email from BPD spokesperson Officer Byron White.

Officers arrived at the scene and learned that the suspect had allegedly attacked the victim with a bamboo stick and threatened him with a knife. Officers later arrested the suspect, Hans Ian Kengle, 37, on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing a weapon and carrying a concealed “dirk/dagger.”
