Residents advised to avoid south end of University Village due to downed power lines

In a UCPD Nixle alert sent at about 6:41 a.m. Friday, police advised the public to avoid the University Village area in Albany.

Residents were told to avoid the south end of University Village due to downed power lines and because emergency personnel was in the area.

The downed power lines energized a fence, according to UCPD spokesperson Sgt. Nicolas Hernandez. The fire department, UCPD and PG&E responded to the area of Fielding Field.

There were no reported injuries or damage, Hernandez said in an email. The situation has been stabilized.

At about 7:26 a.m., another alert added that University Village was safe to enter.
