Update 3/16/2020: this article has been updated to include more information from Berkeley Rec Sports.

In light of Alameda County declaring it will undergo a shelter in place, Berkeley Rec Sports has announced it will cease all operations of all facilities, programs and services starting 6 p.m. Monday through March 29.

This change comes three days after Berkeley Rec Sports announced cancellation of IM programs and limited Recreational Sports Facility, or RSF, hours.

“We will continue to assess the situation over the next two weeks and make a decision about post-Spring Break hours and programming later in the month.  This decision is in support of the campus’s efforts to limit the opportunity of community transmission of COVID-19,” said Brigitte Lossing, director of recreational sports, in a statement.

Those with items stored at the Hearst Gym lockers have until 6 p.m. Monday to retrieve them, and those with items at the RSF have additional time from 7-9 a.m. Tuesday.

A new statement on March 16 stipulated that Berkeley Rec Sports will extend this closure until April 7 in compliance with Alameda County’s shelter in place order.
