21-year-old male arrested on suspicion of carrying loaded handgun after attempted robbery

Kaheed Carter, a 21-year-old male, was arrested on suspicion of carrying a loaded and concealed handgun Wednesday after allegedly attempting to rob the Safeway on Shattuck Avenue.

According to a Nixle Alert sent out by the Berkeley Police Department, officers allegedly caught Carter leaving the store with a bag full of goods without paying, as well as with a firearm and extra ammunition at about 4:10 p.m. Wednesday.

Carter was charged by the Alameda County District Attorney with “carrying a loaded firearm in Public” and “carrying a loaded firearm” Thursday, according to the alert.
