Kai Millner, a 6’2” pro-style quarterback, committed to Cal on Thursday afternoon, becoming the fifth member of the Bears’ 2021 class and the first quarterback to join its ranks.

A three-star recruit from Gilbert, Arizona, Millner owns the designation as the first student-athlete to be recruited by new Cal offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave, who joined the program after serving as offensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos as recently as 2018.
Millner received numerous offers from other Power 5 schools and committed to Cal over Michigan State, Miami, Iowa State and Pac-12 rival Arizona State, among others. He projects as a multiyear Power 5 starter, according to 247Sports, and has drawn comparisons to the New Orleans Saints’ Taysom Hill.
Millner joins a class that is ranked No. 3 in the Pac-12 and No. 18 in the nation by 247Sports and has been composed largely of offensive players. The Arizona product may have the opportunity play with four-star recruits tight end Jermaine Terry and wide receiver Mavin Anderson, as well as offensive tackle Bastian Swinney.
