As an international student, staying up late to watch my Zoom lectures is now a part of my daily routine. With all the late-night studying, however, comes a craving for snacks that I cannot ignore. Munching on food in the middle of a lecture helps keep me awake, and sometimes, is the highlight of my night. After all, the perfect snack is its own kind of magic. Here’s a list of Clog-approved snacks, perfect to munch on at 2 a.m., whether you’re a nocturnal international student or just hungry.

Frozen pizza

Simply put, pizza is soul food. Admittedly, pizza coming from a box that’s been in your fridge for who-knows-how-long might not sound appealing, but it’s the perfect quarantine food! Food in the freezer lasts forever, and pizza is guaranteed to leave you warm and full, with all the carbs you need to be ready for a late-night study grind.

Instant coffee

If you’re a coffee connoisseur, instant coffee may not be for you. The wrong kind can be overly bitter, bland and unappetizing. If there’s a kind you know you like, however, it’s perfect to whip up in the middle of the night for a quick caffeine fix. All you have to do is put it in the microwave for a minute, and you’re done! Instant coffee is incredibly versatile; you can make your standard cup of black coffee by just mixing it with water, or you can make a latte with some milk. It’s the epitome of quick and easy.

Cookies

Whether you’re having it with your cup of coffee or by itself, a cookie serves as the ideal sweet treat. Cookies are incredibly versatile. There’s no shortage of the number of ways in which you can enjoy your favorite kind of cookie. This brilliantly simple dessert is the perfect way to fulfill that annoying and insistent late-night craving.

Chips

While everyone seems to be bulk-shopping for pasta and toilet paper, I went straight to the snack aisle and picked up a decent stock of all my favorite kinds of chips. Ripping open a small pack of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos in the middle of the night is a unique joy, and the sharp flavor can take you straight back to being awake just as your eyes start to droop. You can’t go wrong with a good ole’ chip.

“UC Zoom” may be a challenging adjustment for many students, but your favorite snacks can help alleviate parts of the transition, including the horror of online lectures at 3 a.m. Munch away, Bears!
