With all this time on our hands, there is a little bit more room to tap into our creative selves. Whether that be through singing Disney songs, crocheting, making TikTok dances or practicing your calligraphy, unleash your inner artist. We gave it a shot ourselves. So, we present to you a small collection of 3 poems broken into “haiku” stanzas. We hope you can relate!
1.
You wake up. Groggy.
Another day to reflect
On all the nice things
Fresh cups of hot tea
The soft sound of your friend’s voice
An empty inbox
Assignments pile up
The professor understands
A learning process
Looking at mistakes
Coming up with action plans
The grind never stops
But take a rest now
Opportunity will come
Trust in your efforts
2.
A hot sandwich shop
A fancy new boba place
A thrift shop or two
What place has it all
but Telegraph Avenue?
Everyone knows it
A warm burrito
Or two will sate your hunger
Just ask your roommate
Don’t sleep on Walgreens
There is nothing they don’t have
From candy to soap
Just one more visit
To remind me of good days
Constantly changing
3.
The blazing bright sun
The translucent endless sky
A Berkeley Bound star
The band uniforms
A lemon from Berkeley Bowl
Highlighter on notes
Navy and amber
So what makes UC Berkeley
Is it iron will
Is it all-nighters
Or all the naps on the Glade?
The cheers when we won
Remind her of why
Its resilience and strength
Of each passerby
We hope these poems were able to bring you some peace and make you think about some of the things that you are grateful for. It is okay to be sad when you think about your times on campus, but hopefully you can find yourself replacing that sorrow with the knowledge and comfort that this too shall pass. Go Bears!
