Berkeley Police Department responded to reports that a person had been shot Saturday at about 11:08 p.m., according to BPD spokesperson Officer Byron White.

The victim of the shooting — which took place on the 2500 block of Channing Way — was a woman in her 30s, who used a UC Berkeley emergency blue light phone to call for help. Once emergency personnel arrived, officers found that she had been shot near Hillegass Avenue and Benvenue Avenue, according to White.

UCPD has since located the suspect, Sean Thomas Ryan, a 31-year-old male, on the 2600 block of Dwight Way. He was eventually arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, domestic violence, battery and violation of probation, White said in an email.

After the shooting, the victim was transported to a local hospital. She is currently in stable condition.
