Associate head coach Tyler Browne is leaving the Cal men’s tennis staff to become head of racquet sports at the Orinda Country Club. The move was announced Wednesday by Cal men’s tennis director Peter Wright.

Browne, who was named the 2019 ITA Northwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year, recently completed his 13th season as part of the Bears’ staff, but his impact on Cal’s program began far before this season.

Before coaching, Browne was a member of the team and suited up for Cal from 2003 to 2008. Browne notched a 72-59 overall singles record and tallied 46 doubles victories in his four years on the squad, also serving as team captain during the 2006-07 season.

Hailing from Walnut Creek, Browne began his tenure as an undergraduate student assistant before being hired in August 2008 and promoted to associate head coach in 2013. Together, Browne and Wright led the Bears to a 5-3 record this season before COVID-19 concerns resulted in the cancellation of remaining matches.
