One person was arrested after the Berkeley Police Department responded to reports of gunfire in South Berkeley.

Numerous people reported gunfire Thursday around 7:50 p.m. in South Berkeley. At the same time, BPD also received reports of a hit-and-run collision in the area of Oregon Street and California Street.

At the intersection, officers found two parked vehicles hit by the hit-and-run vehicle and evidence of a shooting. After a search, they detained one person, who was then arrested on suspicion of possessing a loaded handgun and other drug-related offenses.

People with information about the incident that could help with the active investigation are encouraged to contact BPD’s homicide unit.
