Suspect charged with battery, interfering with a business

A 26-year-old man allegedly attempted to enter the Berkeley Community Resource Center when it was closed and assaulted staff members when they did not allow him in.

Berkeley Police Department officers responded to calls from the Berkeley Community Resource Center reporting a person assaulting the homeless shelter staff July 25 at 11:10 a.m. The incident began when the suspect allegedly tried to enter the shelter when it was closed. He then allegedly pinned a staff member to the wall when she told him he could not enter and pushed another staff member aside when she tried to help.

The suspect reportedly left the building when a group of staff members confronted him inside the shelter.
