Fire set at Berkeley synagogue, suspect arrested

Berkeley Fire Department responded Thursday night to a report of a fire at the Congregation Netivot Shalom in West Berkeley.

After an alleged fire at the Congregation Netivot Shalom in West Berkeley, 39-year-old Shameka Latoya Adams was arrested on suspicion of arson and providing law enforcement with false identification Friday.

Berkeley Fire Department responded Thursday night to a report of a fire at the synagogue. It learned that an unknown subject had allegedly set fire to a trash can in the back of the building and fled the scene. Bystanders had begun to extinguish the fire, and officers ensured the fire was completely out once they arrived on the scene.

Latoya Adams was found Friday in Ohlone Park.
