As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to wreak havoc on the country, Cal track and field officials have made the decision to cancel all of the all-comers meets for this season. Cal had not yet set any dates for all-comers meets in 2021.
The previous status of these events, as with the rest of the season, has been up in the air — coaches for the Bears have held limited expectations for the possibility of a return to a normal season this academic year.
All-comers meets, which are for the general public to participate in, are open to all athletes ranging from those at the junior high level to those at the collegiate level.
Last spring, the Bears hosted two successful all-comers meets Feb. 8 and Feb. 22 before the season was abruptly cut short. The 2020 outdoor track and field season was canceled a few days after the blue and gold hosted the Cal Opener at Edwards Stadium. Because of this announcement, the 2020 Cal Opener looks to be the last meet held at Edwards Stadium until the year 2022.
