Berkeley Police Department officers arrested a suspect on a gun possession charge Tuesday, according to a BPD Nixle alert.
At 10:37 p.m., officers responded to a report of a parked vehicle with an intoxicated driver in an off-street parking lot on the 1000 block of University Avenue. The alert added that officers found the vehicle parked diagonally across two spaces.
When approaching the two occupants of the vehicle, BPD found a loaded handgun between the driver’s legs. According to the alert, officers then safely detained the driver. After searching the driver and the vehicle, officers also found a loaded, extended high-capacity magazine, two other loaded high-capacity magazines, more than 80 grams of marijuana, a digital scale and cash.
The driver was identified as a 24-year-old Suisun man and was arrested on suspicion of carrying a loaded, concealed firearm, in addition to possessing high-capacity magazines, according to the alert.
