Man charged with robbery, assault on police officer following shooting

Berkeley Police Department officers arrested 51-year-old Vincent Bryant on Jan. 2 following a report of a robbery on Shattuck Avenue. On Wednesday, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged Bryany with multiple violent felonies.

Bryant was arrested Jan. 2 after Berkeley Police Department officers received a report of a robbery on 2190 Shattuck Ave. After officers attempted to detain Bryant in the courtyard of UC Berkeley’s Tang Center, he threatened officers with a chain, and one officer discharged their firearm.

According to court documents, Bryant was on parole at the time of the arrest. Bryant also has prior felony convictions for residential burglaries and grand theft auto.
