In the early mornings of Sunday and Monday, Berkeley police officers found multiple individuals in the Berkeley Marina area allegedly carrying loaded and concealed firearms.

While conducting a security check of Seawall Drive on Sunday at 3:11 a.m., officers contacted two occupants in a vehicle parked in an area with prohibited parking from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m., according to a Berkeley Police Department Nixle alert. Officers proceeded to investigate the vehicle and found a loaded handgun that allegedly belonged to the passenger of the vehicle.

The passenger was identified as a 22-year-old Oakland man, and the alert added that officers arrested the man on suspicion of carrying a loaded and concealed firearm.

Following the incident, officers conducted another security check Monday at 2:50 a.m. in the same area, according to the alert.

“This time the officer spotted another vehicle parked in the prohibited parking area and contacted the vehicle’s two occupants—a 45-year-old Oakland man and 23-year-old woman (no address),” the alert reads.

After contacting the two occupants of the vehicle, officers allegedly found a loaded handgun made of polymer in the backseat, the alert states. Officers then searched the man and allegedly found more than two grams of cocaine.

The two occupants were arrested on suspicion of carrying a loaded and concealed handgun, according to the alert. Additionally, the man was arrested for allegedly being a felon in possession of a firearm and for possession of a controlled substance.
