US Geological Survey reports 2.8 magnitude earthquake north of Piedmont

An earthquake occurred about 2 kilometers north of Piedmont on Wednesday. The United States Geological Survey reported the 2.8 magnitude earthquake shortly after midnight.

The epicenter of the earthquake, which occurred at 12:18 a.m., was located approximately 2 kilometers north of Piedmont. At 12:22 a.m., the city of Berkeley sent out a tweet reminding residents to prepare for earthquakes.

“Small earthquakes are a reminder to prepare,” the tweet reads. “Before you go back to sleep, stash a flashlight and a pair of sneakers under the bed.”
