On Tuesday, UC Berkeley announced a framework to accommodate flexible work arrangements for campus staff and faculty for the fall semester.
More than 80% of campus faculty expressed a desire for a version of hybrid or remote work, according to a campus press release, which led to the development of the framework. The framework reflects campus’s values and will allow staff members to continue to provide “excellent service” while working remotely.
“We want to create more opportunities for you, our staff, to have more flexibility in your work, wherever possible, to provide you with a greater ability to balance your work and personal lives,” the press release reads.
Steps for requesting and formalizing a flexible work arrangement from a staff member’s supervisor can be found in the toolkit, in which the framework is laid out, according to the press release.
The press release advises staff members to discuss work arrangements with their managers for the fall semester. These arrangements could range from a return to in-person work, remote work or a hybrid schedule. The arrangements will also be subject to change based on campus’s needs.
“Finally, on behalf of campus leadership, let us express our deepest appreciation to all of our staff members who have continued to make extraordinary contributions to the campus during the past 15 months of the pandemic under extremely trying circumstances,” the press release reads.
