With their crisp shortcrust pastry and delicious filling, tarts are one of my favorite baked goods. They come in several varieties, from custard tarts to tropical fruit tarts. We at the Clog will take you through the process of creating a scrumptious chocolate tart. It’s much simpler than you think!

Ingredients

Tart shell

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Filling

  • 4 tablespoons water
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
  • 1 cup chopped dark chocolate
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla
  • 3 large eggs

Directions

Tart shell

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Put the butter in a medium bowl, and then add sugar through a sieve. Using a hand blender, blend the mixture until it is smooth.
  3. Crack the egg into another bowl, and beat it using a spoon or other utensil. Add it to the bowl with the butter, and then blend the mixture.
  4. Add the flour through a sieve, and then add salt. Use a spatula to mix the dough until it is smooth.
  5. Wrap the dough in cling wrap, and put it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  6. Take a 9-inch tart pan, and grease it. Remove the dough from the refrigerator, and then roll it out using a rolling pin.
  7. Roll the dough around the rolling pin, and then unroll it on the tart pan. Gently press the dough against the pan. Make sure to press it against every corner of the pan. Remove any excess dough at the edges using a knife.
  8. Bake it for 15 minutes. Remove the pan from the oven. Reduce the temperature to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.

Filling

  1. Heat a saucepan over high heat. Add the water and butter then stir.
  2. Combine the sugar, dark chocolate and vanilla extract in a medium bowl. Pour the butter mixture into this bowl. Whisk the mixture until the chocolate is melted and silky.
  3. Add eggs to the mixture, and combine them using a whisk.
  4. Pour the mixture into the tart shell. Bake for 15 minutes.
  5. Remove the tart from the oven, and cool it for 30 minutes.

You can garnish your tart with powdered sugar. The final step is to enjoy your dish!
