The Berkeley Fire Department responded to a large fire at an apartment on the 3000 block of Sacramento Street on Tuesday morning.
At 6:04 a.m., BFD received multiple 911 calls regarding an apartment on fire, according to department spokesperson Keith May. May added that fire crews arrived at 6:10 a.m. and found flames and heavy black smoke showing from the ground unit apartment on fire.
“There was significant fire damage to the apartment of origin and some damage to an upstairs apartment,” May said in an email. “The cause of the fire is still under investigations.”
While getting the fire under control and searching for victims, fire crews found one person in an adjacent room who was soon moved to a local hospital, May added.
