Amid our busy college lives with midterms and approaching deadlines, listening to podcasts is one of my favorite ways of staying entertained. They’re the perfect companion for when you’re walking to class, at the gym, doing chores or completing basically any task. Want to get into podcast but are unsure where to start?
I’ve compiled a list of podcasts to listen to for every emotion you might be experiencing here at UC Berkeley. Whether you’re feeling stressed about classes, you’d like some inspiration and motivation or you’re just a learning enthusiast, you’re in the right place.
When you want some inspiration — “How To Fail With Elizabeth Day”
This podcast basically got me through the extreme stress of applying to college while I was in high school. I listen to this podcast whenever I’m feeling overwhelmed, or whenever things don’t seem to be going the way I’d like them to. Every week, a new interviewee opens up about the failures, struggles and backlash they faced and reflects on what their experiences taught them. An incredibly comforting yet inspirational listening experience, this podcast is the ultimate reminder that even the most successful people can make mistakes.
When you feel like discovering some new music — “Live On KEXP”
Are you tired of listening to the same 20 songs in your playlist? Looking to discover something you’ve never heard before? Every week, “Live On KEXP” introduces you to a new artist, and broadcasts their performances from the studio. Varying across different genres and cultures, this podcast can make for a really interesting listening experience.
When you want to learn — “TED Radio Hour”
Personally, I love TED Talks. “TED Radio Hour” digs deeper into the thought provoking ideas of the different guests on TED talks, allowing you to get to know them on a more profound level. Discovering this podcast meant I could feel productive while I was doing laundry or waiting for the bus.
When you need to chill out — “Call Your Girlfriend”
Every week, long-distance best friends Aminatou Sow and Ann Friedman call each other and have a casual conversation about a variety of topics, ranging from the intricacies of their lives to the latest in politics and pop culture. This is the perfect podcast if you’re on a walk and want to have a laugh while eavesdropping on a chill conversation between two friends.
College can be really hectic, but listening to podcasts is one of the simplest hobbies when you’re in need of a break. So what are you waiting for? Just open up your preferred podcast platform and press play for a more exciting multitasking experience!
