Campus provided a long-awaited update for community members affected by the semester’s ongoing issues with Wi-Fi connectivity.

The email sent out by associate vice chancellor for IT and chief information officer Jenn Stringer and executive director of Campus IT infrastructure Dave Browne detailed next steps for working on the campus Wi-fi.

Wi-Fi “authentication hardware” is estimated to be delivered by Nov. 17, and will increase system capacity to better handle internet traffic. Before then, updates on Wi-Fi will be posted to campus’s System Status page.

In addition, Nov. 9 Global Protect VPN will not be available for 30 minutes in the early morning; during this time, it will be migrated to a new hardware infrastructure, said the email.

On Nov. 16, Airbears2, one of campus’s main Wi-Fi networks, will no longer be automatically available for new or previously unconfigured devices to encourage the use of eduroam. Airbears2 will be retired by May 2022, estimated the email.
