A new season comes with a new variety of seasonal drinks to pair with. Autumn’s culinary palette is marked by rich savory and sweet flavors and its beverages represent that sweet side. For all you Christian Girl Autumn fans to Thanksgiving chefs, look no further for spicing up your seasonal taste buds with, well, spiced drinks and more. Here is the Clog’s ranking of the fall season’s most popular drinks.
5. Cranberry juice
Fall season means getting more vitamin C which can be found in good old cranberry juice. Sweet yet with a noticeably tart taste, this is a common beverage on Thanksgiving tables for the kids. However, we would prefer other fruit juices due to the sour kick after each sip.
4. Pumpkin spice latte
A classic autumn beverage to get into the seasonal spirit. Yet, dare we say, it’s slightly overrated. Don’t be fooled with the ‘pumpkin’ in its name, this latte is just a mix of spices in espresso and milk. The taste of it all becomes overwhelming after two to three sips, but we appreciate its caffeination and sugars for those late-night study sessions — that delicious blend of fall spices with lovely whipped cream.
3. Hot chocolate
Most would agree that you can’t go wrong with chocolate and marshmallows and they’re right. Hot cocoa may be one of society’s greatest creations. Rich in chocolate and creamy from the warm milk and melting marshmallows, it’s perfect for cozying up indoors with a backdrop of the autumn night, taking in these final months of the year. It’s also great for camping trips when everyone’s huddled around the campfire, enjoying each other’s company with this beverage. However, hot cocoa is more suitable for even colder weather, and so we place it lower on the list.
2. Apple cider
If we’re going to choose a fruit for the season, apples are our pick. Apple cider’s bubbly carbonation and fruity sweetness pair well with the carb, protein and fats-driven meals fall has to offer, especially during Thanksgiving dinner. It’s just as tasty hot or iced, spiced or not. If you’re looking for a drink that quenches your thirst, apple cider is the best pick from this list.
1. Butterscotch latte
Butterscotch is an underdog flavoring when it comes to fall drinks. This doesn’t often pop into our minds as a necessarily seasonal drink, but butterscotch is very on-brand for autumn. Butterscotch is delicious both iced and hot (Butterbeer anyone?). If you’re looking for that extra energy boost with a fantastic sweetened molasses and caramel taste, this drink consisting of butterscotch syrup, foamed milk and espresso shots is your go-to. It combines some of the best aspects of the other drinks, such as pumpkin spiced latte’s sweetness and hot cocoa’s creaminess into one.
At the end of the day, we appreciate the unique experience each of these drinks brings to autumn. From us at the Clog to you, cheers to the wonderful season!
