Less than three days after National Signing Day, Cal football has landed one of its biggest recruits yet: four-star safety RJ Jones. The California local verbally committed to the blue and gold Friday noon via Twitter.
Hailing from Bellflower, California, Jones is the Class of 2023’s 18th top football recruit in the state and 19th top safety recruit in the US. As part of one of the nation’s most elite high school football programs in St. Bosco High school, Jones recorded 36 total tackles, one interception and three pass deflections in his junior year. He received offers to play at programs such as Oregon, Ohio State and Michigan.
Jones’ announcement follows a National Signing Day in which Cal football capped off its incoming Class of 2022. Of the 14 incoming freshmen, one –– running back Jaydn Ott –– is a four-star recruit. Needless to say, Jones will likely headline a growing list of Class of 2023 Cal commits to come.
