UC Berkeley announced a lift of mask requirements in most indoor settings on campus starting Feb. 28, according to a campuswide email.

The lifted mandate only applies to fully vaccinated individuals, and the email still encouraged individuals to continue to wear masks regardless of vaccination status amid high case rates. In addition, beginning Feb. 14, indoor dining will be permitted at Cal Dining locations across campus for fully vaccinated individuals.

The email states that until Feb. 28, campus will continue to consult with key stakeholders and public health officials to determine whether a transition from masks being required to “highly recommended” remains aligned with relevant public health information.

“Throughout the pandemic, UC Berkeley has closely aligned with local public health guidance,” the email reads. “Moving from mandating to strongly recommending face coverings indoors, in alignment with the public health orders, is a sensible next step in the return to normalcy as pandemic conditions improve.
