BART’s Red Line service between the Richmond and Millbrae stations has been suspended due to power issues along the section.

The problem lies in damaged cables installed in the 1970s, according to a BART press release. While crews have located the cable fault, repair may take extra days due to the “severity and complexity” of the issue. According to the press release, crews are continuously working to mitigate the issue and the impact will be in place for a few days.

Service between Richmond and MacArthur stations — including Downtown Berkeley BART — will be limited to Orange Line trains. There will be timed transfers between Orange and Yellow lines for those traveling to and from San Francisco, the press release adds.

Due to the lack of Red Line trains, BART will provide a shuttle train between the SFO and Millbrae stations, the press release notes. While Orange Line trains will run on a normal schedule, riders who wish to skip the major service impacts can bike or take AC Transit buses.

BART will be updating travelers with more information on its press release and on social media.
