The No. 4 Cal women’s water polo team set off on a successful feat against No. 12 San Jose State University this past weekend Saturday, March 12. The Bears were alert both defensively and offensively — leaving San Jose State no opportunity to score within the first half of the game.

“We wanted to come back from that UCLA loss — to come back in and play better than we have the last two weeks and the team’s finally back together, ” said Cal head coach Coralie Simmons. “We were missing turning today … (this demonstrates) how important fundamentals are.”

Following a couple of home games which Cal hosted at Spieker Aquatics Complex, the blue and gold are scheduled as the visiting team against Arizona State University this upcoming Friday, March 18. The Bears will then proceed next week Monday, March 21 with their fifth game of Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, or MPSF, play against Indiana.

After a solid performance this past weekend against San Jose State University, junior goalie Isabel Williams leads the conference at 10.4 saves per game. Just this week, Williams was named MPSF Player of the Week for the second time this season.

Senior Emma Wright, fellow senior Grace Raisin and sophomore Ruby Swadling all registered impressive contributions to the Bears’ final score against the Spartans: 12-5.

This was Cal’s first win of its games in MPSF. The Bears now hold a 12-2 record overall and 1-2 MPSF standing.

Bear fans continue in their unwavering excitement alongside the team as they continue in their good efforts to bounce back.

After defeating San Jose State University, the question is does Cal have what it takes to earn a second consecutive win? Tune in to watch as Cal jumps into water on Friday with a promising MPSF face-off against No. 10 Arizona State.
