By now, everyone has heard enough (almost too much) about the Grammys. With a massive sweep from Jon Batiste and well-deserved wins for artists such as Olivia Rodrigo and Doja Cat, there was much to be celebrated. The red carpet was no different: Tinashe and others proved hot pink is the it-color this season, and Megan Thee Stallion shined in fierce animal print. With a stunning red carpet that held a lot of personality, here are The Daily Californian’s picks for best-dressed at the 64th Grammy Awards ceremony.
Megan Thee Stallion
The Houston rapper celebrated her two nominations in style, dressed in Roberto Cavalli. The leopard print gown perfectly matched the confident energy of Megan Thee Stallion, or Megan Juvon Ruth Pete. Detailed with a gemstone-bedazzled one-shoulder strap with bold tiger stripes on the lining, the gown served fun, elegance and a little bit of Y2K. Paired with a smokey cat-eye and large gold jewelry, everything about the look appeared regal. The details on the dress and in the accessories were sublime and it perfectly exemplified Megan’s cheerful energy and dominating career.
Giveon
Giveon’s look was so divine, it got its own profile in Vogue. Deservingly so, the custom sequined-suede Chanel suit was accessorized with extravagant pearl and gold jewelry which added to the look’s chic sophistication. The suit reimagined Chanel’s signature tweed two-piece set, moving away from the traditional black suit and tie often seen in red carpet menswear. The blazer was slightly cropped with high-waisted flared pants tailored to Giveon’s figure. The artist’s one-of-a-kind ensemble delivered Chanel at its best.
Lil Nas X
What would be a Lil Nas X appearance without a grandiose look? The pearl Balmain catsuit was just as stunning as last year’s lavish monochromatic hot-pink Grammys ensemble. Fashion critic Luke Meagher, better known from his social media presence as Hautelamode, pointed at the suit’s reference to a mini dress with similar pearlescence and embroidery from Balmain’s 2012 Fall collection. Paired with matching platform boots, Lil Nas X looked confident in a look that exemplified his boundary-bending, fun music and his ethos as an artist. Throughout the night, the “Old Town Road” artist wore seven different Balmain looks from a red mummified ensemble to a crystalized one-shoulder top.
Joni Mitchell
Beloved folk artist Joni Mitchell proved fashion knows no age limit on the Grammys red carpet. The artist donned a matching white blouse and pants adorned with rainbow embroidered flowers running on the sides. Mitchell paired the look with all-red accessories, such as her signature beret, shoes and beaded necklace. Mitchell looked confident and her outfit complimented her serene yet strong presence. The artist’s long-lasting and inspiring career is one to be commemorated, and her Grammys ensemble encapsulated a similar enduring enthusiasm and joy.
Tinashe
From St. Vincent’s pink gown to Saweetie’s Valentino moment, pink is surely making its comeback. Tinashe led the way in a baby pink latex gown made by Italian streetwear brand GCDS. The pink mermaid gown had a bustier style top and a large bow on the lower back of the dress. Tinashe looked stunning, styled with simple David Yurman jewelry and a red glass Coperni bag — the same one Doja Cat wore. The dress’ statement bow piece was a little camp and revived playfulness on the sometimes static Grammys carpet.
Lily Aldridge
Former Victoria’s Secret model Lily Aldridge stunned in a strappy black Nensi Dojaka dress paired with Bulgari jewelry. The model attended to support husband Caleb Followhill, better known for being in Kings of Leon, which received a nomination for Best Rock Song. Aldridge’s dress was a simple black gown featuring an intricate, strappy bodice, illustrating Dojaka’s craftsmanship and Aldridge’s glowing, classic look. The designer recently won the prestigious LVMH Young Designers Award, and Aldridge’s look was a glowing testament to the designer’s skill.
