Seeds of the Salvia hispanica flower, or chia seeds, do wonders for health, offering a ton of benefits from fiber to antioxidants. While they by no means should substitute the fruits and vegetables that one should eat on a daily basis, these seeds are great, especially when you have little time on your hands and need a quick substitute to get your fibers and minerals in for the day. Here are some of my delicious recipes I experimented with recently. Enjoy!

Hibiscus chia seed tea

Slightly sweet and tart, this beverage is a perfect summer drink to help you beat the heat!

Ingredients:

  • 1 hibiscus tea bag
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 cup ice

Directions:

  1. Steep hibiscus tea in 3 cups of hot water and let sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Remove tea bag before adding sugar. Mix well to help sugar dissolve evenly.
  3. Add 1 cup ice and let dissolve until there is no more ice left.
  4. Add chia seeds and mix well.
  5. Leave it in the fridge to cool for 15 minutes and enjoy!

Chia seed milk pudding

An excellent alternative to overnight oats, this milk pudding is filling and make a great choice for breakfast on the go!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • (optional) ⅓ cup diced pineapples
  • (optional) ⅓ cup granola

Directions:

  1. In a mason jar or lidded container, mix milk, chia seeds and sugar well. Let sit for 10 minutes.
  2. Shake mixture and refrigerate overnight.
  3. Add diced pineapple before sprinkling some lightly crushed cashews. Serve immediately.

Chia seed mango yogurt pudding

A slightly more upgraded version of the previous recipe, this pudding is perfect for mango lovers. Feel free to substitute with your favorite fruit or fruits!

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup mango yogurt
  • 2 tablespoon chia seeds
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • (optional) ½  cup diced mangos
  • (optional) ⅓ cup crushed cashews

Directions:

  1. In a mason jar or lidded container, mix milk, mango yogurt, chia seeds and sugar well. Let sit for 10 minutes.
  2. Shake mixture before adding diced mangos. Refrigerate overnight.
  3. Garnish with leftover diced mango and garnish with crushed cashews. Serve immediately.

Voila! There you have three recipes that can be made in just a matter of minutes. Chia seeds can be found virtually in any American grocery store and can even be ordered through Amazon! Feel free to try it out!
