Berkeley Fire Department, police respond to fatal boat fire at Berkeley Marina

The Berkeley Police Department, and Berkeley Fire Department, or BFD, responded to a report of a boat on fire in the water at the Berkeley Marina on Wednesday, as first reported by Berkeleyside.

BPD emergency responders arrived at the scene around 12:38 a.m. where CPR was being administered on a man who had been pulled from the water, according to a BPD press release. BFD proceeded to take over life-saving efforts and extinguish the fire, the press release added.

The victim was transported to a local trauma center for further medical attention, according to the press release. However, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The press release noted the investigation is still active and that further information will be released at a later date.
