SEPTEMBER 16, 2022

One of my favorite things about entering a new season is that it’s a great opportunity to switch up my style. New weather means new outfits, hairstyles and makeup looks. As we enter fall that also means we’re coming to a time of dry weather, a drop in temperatures and autumn colors. As my TikTok feed has been filled with “get ready with me” and makeup haul videos, my excitement for trying out new makeup looks has really blossomed. To help those of you in the same boat, The Daily Clog has compiled our favorite products that we’re excited to use this season as a way to spread some inspiration!

Sunscreens

While fall usually means breezy days and cold nights, sunny Berkeley is sure to stay warm for weeks. While trying out new makeup, it’s important to make sure we’re keeping our skin healthy with a solid sunscreen base. My current favorite is a glowy sunscreen with the slightest tint. Sun Bum’s Original Glow is one option that checks many boxes. It’s smooth as a primer under your makeup or can leave you with a natural, dewy look by itself. With a high SPF and a not-too-shiny finish, it’s a great option for everyday wear. Another hit is the Coppertone Glow Sunscreen that has a bargain price and can be worn all over. If you’re looking for something to go on seamlessly under your makeup, a pricier but popular choice is the SuperGoop! Glowscreen. Find an option that works best for you and keep your skin nice and protected this season!

Moisturizers

Alongside cold days, fall in Berkeley also means incredibly dry heat. The key to keeping our makeup looking flawlessly smooth is making sure we’re prepping our skin with a solid moisturizer. This helps give the rest of our products a seamless look and allows them to melt into our skin. Each person’s skin is unique and benefits from different kinds of skincare, so do some research on the best products for your specific skin type. Whatever kind you choose is sure to make your makeup look glossy and immaculate all day.

Fall lip colors

This new season also means the exploration of new shades. My favorite way to incorporate the fall trends into my makeup routine is with a darker lip color. Deep reds, pinks and purples are always big hits during the autumn time. I love to take a more natural route by using a purple lip oil or brown nude gloss. Or, for those days when I really want a pop, it’s always fun to try out a bold dark red lipstick. Lip products of every color, style and price can be found at any makeup or drugstore store. If you’re looking for an easy way to spruce up your makeup kit, this is the best way to go. Experiment with all varieties of products and you’re sure to find your new go-to.

Foundation balms

An emerging product The Daily Clog can’t wait to try out this season is the wide variety of foundation balms! Lighter than foundation with an easy application, this revolutionary new product is sure to be a favorite this season. When you’re constantly running out the door for class but still want a quick makeup look to even out skin tone, this is the item for you. Many brands, including ColorPop, Danessa Myricks and Glossier, have come out with their own versions ranging in price and coverage. These products can be one-step routines for when we only want a quick touch-up, or can be included into a full face look. With such versatility and ease, this product is sure to keep popping up this fall.

Whether you consider yourself a makeup guru, or lip balm is the only thing on your face, we hope this guide provided some inspiration for your fall looks. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and enjoy experimenting this fall!

I decided to adopt a more positive attitude towards my skin and physical appearance. Instead of starting my mornings with negative self-talk, I switched to expressing gratitude for the ability to see a dermatologist and get the treatments I needed. I reminded myself that my acne did not define me or my beauty.
