Every college student has been there. At some point in our college career we’ve promised ourselves that this is the semester we’re going to stay organized. This, of course, is promised only to find ourselves in shambles a few weeks later — maybe even a few days! No matter how hard we try, staying on top of classes and activities can quickly become overwhelming.
If you’ve found yourself in the spiral of slowly losing organization this semester, The Daily Clog is here to help. This is perfect in the case of approaching (and much dreaded) midterm season, too! While we’re still experiencing this ourselves, we’ve found some helpful tips that you can benefit from. From new tips to refreshers, here are some practical ways to keep you organized this semester!
Set alarms
With so many readings, assignments and quizzes, it’s easy to miss important deadlines — academic or otherwise. If you’re constantly finding yourself forgetting to fill out an after class Google Form or weekly survey, try setting an alarm! I like to set an alarm on my phone for the nights I have weekly check-ins to remind myself to complete them. Every last point is worth it in the long run! Make sure to set it for a time when you’re usually free, such as the late evening. This way, you can get it done and no longer worry about forgetting it!
Use your reminders
On a similar note to alarms, try using reminder apps. If you’re like me and have trouble keeping track of important dates, put them into your reminder app. This is determined to decrease your stress levels at least slightly! This is the perfect way to be reminded days in advance of an approaching deadline. You can also set a couple so you can be alerted whenever you’re at your favorite study spot. Having the notification on your phone for a few days could be helpful to jog your memory of what you have to get done. Plus, once you complete it you can check it off and feel a sense of accomplishment! One aspect every student can agree on is that completing any task is such a rewarding feeling.
Google Calendar
As the semester really starts to get hectic and our schedules fill up, it’s easy to forget about appointments and classes. Putting everything into your Google Calendar is one great way to help you. Fill your calendar with all your activities, hangouts and study sessions so you can make sure you’re not overcommitting. This is crucial because you’ll be able to leave some time for you. Rest is important! Having all of these important times in your calendar will help keep you from missing any important events and hopefully help clear your head a little.
However chaotic things may seem right now, we promise you’re not alone. Staying organized during a crazy semester isn’t easy, but following some of these tips will hopefully help you feel a little more aligned with your aspirations!
