Summer is the time for endless possibilities, especially for college students in California. With its breathtaking scenery, world-class attractions and endless entertainment options, California is the perfect place to spend your summer. If you’re planning to stay in Berkeley for the summer or are a California native, here are some ideas for summer activities to add to your list.

Take a road trip along the Pacific Coast Highway

One of the best ways to see California is by taking a road trip along the Pacific Coast Highway. The route begins in San Francisco and goes all the way down to Santa Cruz, Monterey and Big Sur, stopping along the way to take in the stunning scenery. You’ll see some of the most beautiful beaches and coastlines in the world, as well as charming small towns and vibrant cities. One of the must-see landmarks along the way is Bixby Bridge in Big Sur, with stunning views of the ocean.

Go to a concert with friends

California is known for its vibrant music scene, and summer is the perfect time to catch a concert. You can gather your friends and head to one of the many music venues in the state, such as the Hollywood Bowl, the Greek Theatre or the Santa Barbara Bowl. These venues are all outdoors which means that you can catch the sunset and enjoy live music under the stars all in one night. Even if it’s not an artist you know that well, if the ticket is cheap enough, a concert is so fun to go to!

Explore Yosemite National Park

If you’re an outdoor enthusiast, Yosemite National Park is a must-visit destination. Located in the Sierra Nevada mountains, Yosemite offers breathtaking landscapes, waterfalls and hiking trails. You can hike to Half Dome or Yosemite Falls, go rock climbing or take a scenic drive through the park.

Visit Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe is another great summer destination in California. Located in the Sierra Nevada mountains, Lake Tahoe is a popular destination for outdoor activities. While it’s known for its snow, there are still a lot of summer activities! You can rent a kayak or paddleboard, go hiking or mountain biking or simply relax on the beach. The crystal-clear water and stunning scenery make for a perfect summer day.

Go to an amusement park

For thrill-seekers, California is home to some of the best theme parks in the world, including Disneyland, Universal Studios and Six Flags Magic Mountain. Spend a day riding roller coasters, watching shows and enjoying the attractions with your friends. If you’re a Harry Potter fan, be sure to check out The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood.

Explore Joshua Tree National Park

For those who love exploring nature, Joshua Tree National Park is a unique destination that offers stunning desert landscapes and a variety of outdoor activities. A park located in the Mojave Desert, you can hike to the top of Ryan Mountain for panoramic views, explore the unique rock formations or stargaze at night in one of the best dark sky areas in Southern California. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen, as temperatures are high in the summer. Joshua Tree is also a great place to go camping, so consider spending a night or two in this beautiful desert.

California offers a diverse range of attractions that cater to every interest and budget. From the rugged coastline and towering redwoods to the bustling cities and cultural landmarks, this state has something for everyone. Whether you’re looking to explore the great outdoors, indulge in world-class cuisine or immerse yourself in history and art, California’s got you covered. So, pack your bags and embark on an adventure that will leave you with a deeper appreciation for this state.
