The concept of walking tacos was fairly new to me before my high school cafeteria started to occasionally serve them my senior year. For those of you who still don’t know what walking tacos are, they’re essentially tacos in chip bags. Consisting of any crushed-up chip bag of your choice, you can add your favorite taco toppings (think meat, guacamole, cheese, etc). They’re called “walking” tacos because of their convenience — you can walk around with them without worrying about making a mess. So, for those of you intrigued by the whole concept of walking tacos and are looking to try it out, here’s how I would make walking tacos.

Ingredients

  • Any chip bag of your choice (I will be using Nacho Cheese Doritos)
  • Lettuce
  • Sour cream
  • Nacho cheese (I’ve seen many people use shredded cheese instead)
  • Guacamole
  • Cooked ground beef

Directions

  1. Crush up your bag of chips into smaller pieces
  2. Add all of your ingredients into the chip bag
  3. Shake the bag to mix the toppings around
  4. Walk while eating and enjoy!

Of course, this is only how I would make walking tacos. Nonetheless, these were such a delicacy at my high school — most likely because you have the creative freedom to add any of your favorite ingredients. As a college student, I think walking tacos are the perfect snack for how quick and easy they are to make, especially since the toppings are food staples in almost everyone’s fridge.

Also, they make for great party food. You can lay out a bunch of taco ingredients along with a mix of chip bags for your guests, and you’ll have your very own self-serving taco bar, almost as if you got catering. Because of the concept of “on-the-go” food, party guests can easily bring the tacos with them as they mingle with other guests or multitask and play party games together.

Walking tacos are extremely easy to make — I guess that’s what adds to its concept of convenience. They’re so versatile in that you can bring, make and serve them on any occasion — from parties to road trips. So, for those of you who have never heard of walking tacos, I hope you’ll give it a try one day — they certainly prove to be a unique and creative concept.
