Summer is the perfect time to pick up a new hobby or find something interesting to do. With school out of session, many college students are looking for enriching things to fill their free time. So, I’ve decided to make a hobby guide with some suggestions of fun activities to try out this summer.
Reading is a good hobby to pick up over the summer. It’s a great way to expand your mind and fully engross yourself in the life of someone else. I love the way reading expands my creative horizons and allows me to forget the stressors in my daily life. Due to my love of writing, reading also helps me generate new ideas and find inspiration for my own writing pieces. So, find a book and go sit outside this summer — it’s such a great, healthy and creative way to take a break and relax.
Journaling is a wonderful stress reliever to pick up over summer vacation. It helps people understand what they’re feeling and record the experiences they have. It’s great to be able to look back on a journal and relive some of the emotions of when it was written. Writing has been a very healthy way for me to cope and express my emotions. So, I encourage you all to give journaling a try this summer, you never know, it could be a wonderful experience!
Summer is a time full of warm weather and blooming nature, thus spending some time in the great outdoors is both beautiful and beneficial. Hiking is a great way to exercise that can also be both fun and social. Many people opt to hike with friends, which only enhances the experience while simultaneously doing something that’s good for your body and mind. Spending time in nature is also a great way to decompress from any mental stressors because of the peaceful serenity nature provides. If you’re lucky enough to live in an area with a plethora of hiking trails, it’s a phenomenal idea to give some of them a try. You might be surprised to find out how much you love walking on these trails and enjoy the beauty nature has to offer.
Painting, another creative endeavor, can be a fun hobby to get into over the summer. Although it can be expensive with the easels and paints required, painting is a very artistic way to express emotions and creativity. Many people opt to take painting classes to begin their journey in the art of painting, however you don’t even need to do that to get started. Anyone can be a painter with just a couple of supplies and a creative idea. I would highly recommend trying it out, you never know how good you can be unless you give it a try.
Jewelry making is a very fun hobby to get into — especially over the summer when time is plentiful. It’s a great skill to have and something that can come in handy when you have gifts that need to be made. Supplies aren’t that expensive and can even be made or found in order to keep the costs low. This skill can also be learned from videos or classes. In my opinion, jewelry making is a great skill to have and something that will always come in handy when you or others need a pretty piece to wear.
There are plenty of amazing hobbies to spend your time learning or practicing this summer. You can pick up an instrument, start a project, read a classic, learn to crochet and so much more. I hope this article gives you some ideas to get you started with a new hobby this summer, the rest is up to you!
Best of luck and happy summer!
