Nature provides rest: It plucks the modern human away from the screens of technology and places them in the center of momentary bliss and reflection. As a student in the College of Natural Resources and an avid gardener both indoors and outdoors, I have always cherished the slivers of repose when I get to spend a weekend atop the hills of Berkeley, away from the hustle and bustle of the Southside of campus. Even more, the myriad of wildlife — including deer spotted from a distance, goats on duty for targeted weeding and dogs with their humans taking an evening stroll — reorients the rigid anthropocentric perspective of an urban neighborhood that I am accustomed to. I owe any trace of a relatively stable mental health to the beaten paths of Strawberry Creek and the Fire Trails, and I hope these photos capture the gratitude I have for all that nature offers so bountifully.
