A campus sign valued at $25k, an amount warranting a grand felony, was recovered from the roof of the Sigma Chi fraternity house by UCPD Sept. 12.

According to UCPD Sgt. Jacob Westlie, campus housing staff reported the missing sign to UCPD on Sept. 8, and spotted the sign on the roof of the Sigma Chi house the same day.

Campus is seeking a non-criminal resolution, noted Westlie. The sign was worth $25,125 and the installation cost was $3,150 according to campus housing staff.

A statement from campus’ Sigma Chi chapter claims no one in the chapter was aware of the sign, which they claimed occurred in Fall 2020.

“We deeply apologize to the school and community for the incident in question,” the statement reads. “We do not know who is responsible but we are fully cooperating and doing everything in our power to assist both the school and the UCPD in this matter.”
