BPD spokesperson Officer Jennifer Coats said that police received a report at about 4:30 p.m. of a person down on West Street path near Delaware Street. Both Berkeley Fire Department and BPD responded upon the call and the victim, identified as a male in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a release put out by BPD, the victim, a 83-year old male, was walking with a family member on 4th Street near Hearst Avenue at about 1:08 p.m., and had recently purchased a phone at the Apple Store.
