Two men were the victims of a robbery early Monday morning in the Bowles Hall parking lot.

A man was the victim of a robbery on Monday morning near Cafe Milano on the 2500 block of Bancroft Way.

A state appeals court upheld $375,000 in damages against a Berkeley hospital in a suit brought by two women who witnessed their relative choking to death post-surgery.

The center was one of nine nonprofit organizations worldwide that received the 2015 MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions, recognized for its work on war crimes and abuses in more than a dozen countries by “applying cutting-edge science and research to protect human rights globally.”

Composed entirely of classrooms and study space, the North Academic Building is designed to help “transform the student experience” by adapting to “new forms of educational technology and learning,” school officials said. The six-story structure that spans nearly 80,000 square feet is scheduled to complete in Fall 2016 and costs about $60 million.

BPD spokesperson Officer Jennifer Coats said that police received a report at about 4:30 p.m. of a person down on West Street path near Delaware Street. Both Berkeley Fire Department and BPD responded upon the call and the victim, identified as a male in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a release put out by BPD, the victim, a 83-year old male, was walking with a family member on 4th Street near Hearst Avenue at about 1:08 p.m., and had recently purchased a phone at the Apple Store.

After a year’s worth of relocation and reconstruction, historic Julia Morgan Hall has reopened at the UC Botanical Garden.
