UC Berkeley researchers discovered an aversive dopamine network in the brain, which reduces the pleasure associated with nicotine use. They are hoping that the discovery will prompt more effective treatments for nicotine addiction.
UC Berkeley researchers found that high doses of nicotine activate a newly-discovered aversive dopamine network, making people feel worse the more they consume the drug.
