Over the weekend of June 3 and 4, the Bay Area Book Festival took place throughout Downtown Berkeley. The festival featured carnival rides, author talks, book giveaways and other opportunities for writers and readers to connect.

Now, I’m so disinterested in reading that my distracted ears can hear one of my housemates sneeze from across the house through four closed doors, and I’ll convince myself that it is completely necessary to get up and bless them. I will go to the kitchen to refill my water bottle after every sip because it must be absolutely full.

As far as I was concerned, I was the queen of anything and everything related to the English language. Sometimes, however, I didn’t exactly have my facts straight.

I can’t recall reading any acronyms in the works of Chaucer or Shakespeare. How has this rapid creation of new words become so common?
