As an independently financed and distributed film, “Logan Lucky” proves that good ole fashioned, intelligently made, economical mid-budget movies can provide more entertainment value than overstuffed blockbusters.

The normalcy of Peter Parker (excellently portrayed by bright-eyed Tom Holland) carries this film and helps create a new blueprint for superhero movies — movies more interested in the lives of all of the people, rather than the spectacle of putting those lives at stake.

While the debate between the streaming giants of today versus the studios, exhibitors, festival directors and cinephilic spectators will always exist, Netflix’s ability to offer such distinctive visions should be commended rather than chastised.

The films released between May and August are some of the most exciting of the year as blockbusting CGI-fests and Oscar contenders alike convene at the multiplex.

While the Academy, as well as the industry as a whole, can be elitist and problematic, it’s hard to not have a little bit of fun celebrating movies.
