It’s a classic story. You’re at the top of your class in high school, and then you come to UC Berkeley and have to compete with the best of the best.

According to my doctrine, I must quit my job as admin when this semester ends and I graduate UC Berkeley.

In 2018, I got a submission that simply read, “All the confessions that you read on this page are just reflections of how Spencer feels on the inside.”

Overheard at UC Berkeley has never endorsed an ASUC candidate. Except for one time.

COVID-19 is the crisis that binds us all together, which is why the Overheard at UC Berkeley banner image now reads, “Quarantined at UC Berkeley.”

When it comes down to it, there’s just one post that finds that perfect combination of conciseness, genuineness and popularity.

I wanted to select people who could carry the legacy I had cultivated, but I knew it would be hard to tell how someone would do an unfamiliar job.

This, I realized, was a case of doxxing: publishing private and identifying information about a person on the internet.

“You know, looking at your name, I almost thought you were the ‘Overheard Guy,’ ” she said.

For the first time since starting the page, I tried to use my admin power to strike a deal.
