Eastwind Books of Berkeley hosted a virtual book talk to feature “Chinatown Pretty,” a book that is part of a larger project to share the style and stories of Chinatown’s senior residents.

Trethewey writes about loss and monuments with a masterful hand, but what made the talk exceptionally poignant were Foster’s considerate but challenging questions.

Her poetry is honest in this sense, accessing a vulnerability that clearly defines Mather as a writer who isn’t afraid to express the real, the raw and the ugly.

In an interview with The Daily Californian, Mather discussed her experience having cerebral palsy, or CP, her passion for poetry and her recently published book.

Despite any allure that may be lost in this more explicit literary approach, “Evening” is a page-turner that instills a hope amid even the most dire and final of circumstances.

“A House Is a Body” becomes increasingly repetitious on the subject of marriage but remarkably original in the face of death.

“Parakeet” touches on the near-insolvable crises tangled within the enigma that is the human condition.

Readers will find Jost more likable on the last page than they did on the first.

The anthology contains deeply personal stories by the authors focusing on their lived experiences spanning a range of disabilities.
