Oakland detention facility closes, leading to inmate transfer to jail in Dublin

Because of financial constraints, the Glenn E. Dyer Detention Facility in Oakland closed in June, causing its inmates to be transferred nearly 30 miles to the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, according to Alameda County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. Ray Kelley.

Alameda County launches summer lunch program in effort to alleviate nutrition gap

The program will be offered until Aug. 9 at two locations: the Eastmont Self-Sufficiency Center in Oakland and the Eden Area Multi-Service Center in Hayward. Free lunch will be served on weekdays between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Local agencies organize elder abuse awareness event at Alameda County Fair

During the event, the organizers educated the community about elder justice issues, advocated for seniors in long-term care facilities at their booth, and relaunched ACSSA’s public service announcement film “Don’t Worry Mom” as part of their campaign.

Alameda County board of supervisors votes for demilitarized emergency training

In light of community opposition to the Urban Shield program, the Alameda County board of supervisors revoted Tuesday in a 3-2 decision to implement 60 recommendations, which were initially adopted Feb. 26, that call for demilitarized emergency response training and a community-focused response to disaster.

Ad hoc committee approves recommendations to revise controversial Urban Shield program

In its final meeting, the Ad Hoc Committee on Urban Shield approved a report Wednesday containing recommendations for the replacement of Alameda County’s controversial Urban Shield program, which will be reviewed and voted on by the county’s board of supervisors March 12.
