Berkeley Police Department, or BPD, arrested a 16-year-old boy May 30 after receiving a tip that he was recruiting high school students to participate in a mass shooting that included explosives at Berkeley High School, according to a Nixle Alert released Wednesday afternoon.

Family of Lars Kepler “Kep” Lane, a victim of the 2021 shooting at the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority rail yard, or VTA, filed a lawsuit Thursday on the anniversary of Lane’s death. The family is seeking damages for alleged negligence and wrongful death.
