Report shows increase in cases of sexually transmitted diseases in California

In a record year for instances of sexually transmitted disease across the country, California in 2015 experienced its highest number of overall cases and an increase in the three most commonly-reported diseases — chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis.

On Wednesday, the U.S. Department of Defense announced that it will suspend the recall of enlistment bonuses erroneously issued to California National Guard soldiers after the policy prompted criticism from veterans statewide, including those attending UC Berkeley.

Gov. Jerry Brown signs bill requiring gender-neutral single-user restrooms

On Sept. 29, Gov. Jerry Brown signed bill AB 1732 into law, requiring single-user restrooms that are open to the public to be all-gender inclusive, which comes after a long string of protests for gender-neutral restrooms by students at UC Berkeley.

Brown signs bill to protect janitorial workers from sex harassment

In light of the movement of janitors fighting against the sexual harassment they experience at their job, Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill into law Thursday that establishes workplace protection against sexual violence and harassment for custodial staff.

Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill into legislation Thursday intended to increase transparency between licensed contractors and the Contractors State License Board, or CSLB, in light of the 2015 Berkeley balcony collapse.

State lawmakers pass bill in response to Berkeley balcony collapse

Spurred by a Berkeley balcony collapse that killed six people last summer, state lawmakers sent a bill to Gov. Jerry Brown on Wednesday that would require contractors report past felonies and other crimes involving construction defects to the Contractors State License Board.
